Pescador Solitario: Argentina I - The Fishing Day

At Atalaya breakfast is served around 5:30 AM and the clients generally are on the boats around 6:30 AM.  There is a drive of 15 minutes to 30 minutes to reach the boat moorings.  From there fishing begins immediately.  You will be fishing the side channels of the Yahape and Repeski areas, locations now famous for the concentration of fish.  Casting while drifting along the shore is the most common practice and you will mostly be fishing structure.

It is generally hot at mid-day, so we normally return to the lodge for lunch and a break and siesta or pool time, and go back to the river about 3:30 PM, and fish from 4:00 PM or so until dark.  This maximizes the fishermen’s "bite" time.

 Other Activities

Atalaya is the real thing, a classic Argentine working cattle ranch.  Fishing clients are welcomed with the gauchos for a horseback ride that can take you through the incredible landscape of the ranch.  Prior to becoming our host lodge, Atalaya was an ecotourist retreat, with birders coming from around the world.  Bird life is incredible and the viewing is excellent right out your front door.  You can also just relax at the pool where hors’deurves are served, or study the collections of the on-site museum.
