Pescador Solitario: Costa Rica - Manzanillo

On the Caribbean Cost of Costa Rica just north of the Panama Border is the small Dolphin Lodge, but we call it Tarponville. The facility is on Playa Manzanillo and south of the nearest Costa Rican community of any size, Puerto Viejo. South of the lodge is the Sixaola River that forms the border between Costa Rica and Panama. The mouth of this river is one of the many fishing grounds. The southern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica's Limon province is one of the nation's most beautiful regions, with magnificent beaches, lush jungles, quiet rivers, marvelously friendly people - most of whom speak English - and an abundance of tropical birds, monkeys and other wildlife. The region is protected by the Manzanillo-Gandoca National Wildlife Refuge.

Fly Fishing in Costa Rica:

Accommodations:

With excellent accommodations and beautiful views, the local area has been noted by Outside Magazine as "one of the most beautiful deserted beaches in the world." (October, 1999)   The Dolphin Lodge is quaint facility located in the edge of the jungle and within Grandoca National Wildlife Refuge.  The lodge is less than 50 yards from the beach.  There is no television and ceiling fans provide the cooling.  All of the clients have found this facility to be inspiring and comfortable.  You will share the environment with howler monkeys, sloths and a host of tropical birds.  The local chef provides hearty, good meals with a schedule to match your fishing times.

Other activities in this spectacular area, fun regardless of whether or not you are an angler, include: wild dolphin watching tours, ocean kayaking with wild dolphin, river kayaking, guided jungle hikes, snorkeling and Scuba diving, horseback riding, indigenous cultural tours, botanical gardens, beachcombing the miles of undeveloped white sand beaches, and the legendary Caribbean night life in Puerto Viejo.
