The preferred route to Tierra Maya and our fishing operation is via Cancun. A rent car is easy to obtain and the drive to the lodge is about 5 and ½ hours. A private shuttle service is also available at a reasonable rate. To avoid driving time it is also possible to fly into Belize City. Our agent will meet you as you leave customs and within thirty minutes to one hour you are on an eighteen minute flight to San Pedro. The current charge for the Tropic Air round-trip flight to San Pedro is $93. A guide will pick you and your party up at the San Pedro airport and lead you through the short process of clearing Belize customs and on to the boat.

More Fly Fishing on Chetumal Bay: The boat ride to the lodge is about one and one-half hours. The route to the lodge is in the bay and inside the reef so the water is flat and the scenery spectacular. The Belize connection adds the extra cost of the Tropic Air shuttle flight and a charge each way for the boat. The total cost often exceeds the cost of a shared rent car or private shuttle from Cancun. Also, if you travel through Belize you will need to clear immigration and customs in Mexico. There is often no customs agent in Xcalak. |
